This 2015 edition of the Dakar rally been a gruesome one up till now. On stage five the Dakar had to master the unforgivable Atacama Desert in Chile. The 697 kilometre-long route went from Copiapo to Antofagasta… It was a day of loose gravel as well as huge dunes with extremely fine “fesh fesh” sand.
Stage six (Antofagasta to Iquique) was short but very demanding. It was characterized by two completely different kinds of soil – The first part of the stage was held on fast gravel roads, but towards the end of the stage they had to cross large unforgivable dunes.
On stage 7 the Dakar route lead from Iquique in Chile to Uyuni in Bolivia. The drivers had to cross a mountain plateau at 3,900 metres above sea level. The 321 kilometre-long stage was held on very loose gravel and proved to be a killer for the tires..!
